Chiropractic. Not just for adults!

Being born is a natural phenomenon. It is the process in which we are born that has become one of the most stressful, most traumatic experiences of our lives. Forceps, C-Section, epidurals are accepted as very normal in todays world. All of these interventions put unnecessary stress on both mother and baby which can cause dysfunction within the spine, the nervous system and the way that the body functions.

Without the language to explain what is wrong, some newborn babies exhibit unexplained crying, colic, sleep problems, explosive bowel movements, attachment issues, lack of appetite, allergic reactions or other difficulties. Newborns and infants will often show a tendency to hold their head to one side or prefer a certain breast when feeding.

These are the ways that they cope with abnormal spinal function and an impaired nervous system. Crying is their only way to let us know that something is wrong. Chiropractors are alert to the many ways that nerve interference can negatively affect your babies’ health.

Many infants and toddlers will rub or tug their ears at some point, a sign of ear infections possibly caused by an impaired nervous system, making the Eustachian tubes susceptible to fluid build up or infection.

If indicated, a series of very gentle and specific adjustments are given which can increase the bodies’ ability to heal itself. Many parents see instant improvements in the well being of their child.

Check ups are very helpful throughout life, and are very helpful to monitor development as infants learn to crawl, and take their first steps. Growing pains, nightmares, bed-wetting, and decreased concentration are all signs that something is not right. Left uncorrected during the early stages of development can lead to chronic problems in adulthood.

Juice Detoxing

New Year. Post Christmas food binge. Detox. Juice Cleanse.

Juicing is everywhere. Facebook. Instagram. Magazines. Everyone does it. Its healthy…. isn’t it?

Have you ever thought that a juice cleanse may be more harmful than beneficial? Of course you might drop those extra couple of Kg gained after indulging on a few extra chocolates and wines over Christmas, however you will normally gain the weight straight back when you start eating again.

Arn’t there a lot of vegetables and fruits in the juices, containing a lot of nutrients and vitamins? Correct. If you don’t consume fruit and vegetables on a regular basis, you are most likely to start seeing changes by implementing them into your diet.

However.

By Juicing, you remove the fiber in which your body needs to help slow down the absorption of sugar. Fiber helps to breakdown carbohydrates helping to maintain blood sugar control and making you feel full for longer. Fiber helps food to move through your digestive tract, which helps with bowel elimination. The main reason fruits and vegetables are good for us is because of the fiber they contain.

With the decrease in fiber, we see a rapid blood sugar spike after drinking a juice, followed by a crash often leading to symptoms of dizziness, headaches, and hunger pains. Rapid changes in blood sugar levels throughout the day can place stress on the body, harmful to the body.

Another missing ingredient in the typical juice cleanse is protein and good fats. Protein is needed for cell rebuilding and muscle repair within the body, and fats are important for good hormone production.

If you are thinking of participating in a juice cleanse, I would recommend eating whole fruits and vegetables instead of just the juice. Add nut butter or protein powder to the juices, which will help to stabilise blood sugars throughout the day. Or find a juice cleanse that includes nuts or protein as apart of their juices.

Eat Right. Move Right. Think Right.

Every human is designed to be extraordinary. Living a life full of excitement, and purpose. Feeling healthy, and full of energy – a normal life. Eat right. Move right. Think right.

Eat right – Eat real food first. Unpackaged, simple food with limited ingredients. Eat meals full of vegetables and colour. Proteins help to stabilise blood sugar and maintain energy levels throughout the day. Increasing healthy fat intake improves hormone function within the body. Limit refined sugars. No beauty serum, pill, or juice cleanse will make you feel, think or look as good as whole food can!
Move right – Our lives are filled with daily stressors. Sitting at desks, working on computers, driving, and watching TV. These contribute to the poor movement patterns (slouch) seen in the average human. Becoming progressively inactive as a nation is decreasing our health status and is slowly making us ill. Each day should include movement, Walk, Swim, Yoga, Interval training. Anything, just move!
Think right – Be kind to yourself and others. Take time out to do things that you enjoy, things that make you happy. What is your purpose? Do you have goals in which you strive to achieve?
